The Community team is the biggest and widest team within the church and works to provide missional work within our church and local community, within our Parish, within the wider Forfar and Inverarity area and internationally. Our work covers many aspects, from education and information sharing about local and international issues, fundraising for charities and good causes, helping those in our communities suffering from poverty, addiction, mental health issues and supporting our pastoral team and family worker care for the elderly, the sick, young families, and neurodiverse people. We work closely with our social committee to organise social events to fundraise or raise awareness of issues and to spread love and fellowship to the wider community. Recent work undertaken by the team include a Community Fun day in September 2023, where over 200 children and families attended the church for bouncy castles, games, stalls, a barbeque and music, where we engaged with the local community and invited them into our church. Many of the families who came along struggle financially and really appreciated having something low-cost to entertain the children and have a fun day out. |
In January 2024, the church held an awareness weekend for the charity Social Bite, which has as its mission to end homelessness. We at East, Old and Inverarity are supporting their campaign to build a Recovery Village in Dundee for vulnerable adults struggling with addictions, which will provide wraparound care and support for local people without the need for travelling to other parts of the country for treatment. Over the weekend the church raised over £1000 for Social Bite and learned a lot more about the excellent work this charity does. |
