Over the last 10 years we have had a Green Team which has varied in size from 8 members down to 3 members.
Before the Covid pandemic we were very active but recently have cut down on many activities, e.g. litter pick-ups, Fair Trade stall, going into schools to work with the children. Some of the activities we have undertaken are:
- Memorial Garden outside East and Old church
- Working with Chimes playgroup – making welly planters and planting seeds in East and Old church grounds.
- Reusing old masonry from broken headstones to make a pathway
- Woodwork using old pew wood
- Working with Forfar Menshed club to restore and make new wooden planters for outside the church, using old pew wood.
- Creating a pollinator garden at Inverarity church grounds. Phase 1 currently in progress, Phase 2 planned for later.
- Collection of stamps, soft plastic wrapping, crisp bags, old spectacles for recycling.
- Regular Inverarity church Pre-loved is re-loved events
We are members of Eco Congregation Scotland. We have gained their bronze and silver awards and are now working our way through the Gold Award. |
We recently had a visit from Eco-Congregation Scotland, in preparation for our Gold Award. They gave us the following commendations:
- The communication on Eco matters within the church across all groups and with the congregation and wider community, through newsletters, church noticeboards, Facebook and LinkedIn.
- The huge amount of work carried out in the local community. This includes the Big Kirk Shop, recycling collections, tree planting, litter picking, working with Chimes Playgroup and at Restenneth Eco garden and the Heat Hub.
- The enthusiasm for gardening projects, especially encouraging members to grow their own food.
- Work done with international partners, particularly in Hungary and Switzerland and encouraging our twin church in Hungary to become an Eco-Congregation.

As we have recently lost our convenor, we are looking for a new, enthusiastic leader and new members to help make our church more ‘Green!’
If you’d like to join us, speak to Glenda Robertson or any of the elders at East and Old Church.
